So I literally just picked my Jeep up on Friday night from my last run in with a bad driver. Brand new front bumper on a 6 week old truck...
This morning driving down the highway at 65 in the right lane, no one in front of me, no one behind me (in the right lane), there is a box truck coming down the on ramp with no one in front of them, and the ramp lane goes about 1/2 mile before it merges.
The box truck, traveling at approximately 45 mph decides to merge onto the highway, merging over the double solid white lines, and DIRECTLY in front of me, causing me to have to jack on my brakes.
I then change lanes (one left) and speed up again, the truck is still going 45 mph. As I approach to pass, the truck cuts left again directly in front of me, cutting me off yet again and forcing me to stomp on my brakes. There was no one in front of them in the right lane.
I get back in the right lane and again begin to speed back up, the truck still going about 45, again I watch as the truck cuts left, directly in front of another vehicle who was traveling at 65-70 mph, cutting them off and forcing them to slam on their brakes.
As I drive past the truck I look into the cab, the driver, completely oblivious. I watched in my rear view for as long as I could see, that truck never made it past 50-ish in a 65 zone, and sat in the left lane the entire time, holding up traffic.
People, seriously, wake up, pay attention, I am tired of almost getting hit every time I go to work, or the grocery, or the gas station, or anywhere that involves my car and someone else in a different car.

I have noticed an increase in distracted/bad driving. I don't know what it is. Part of me thinks it comes with the holidays. People get in these selfish modes of needing to be somewhere or do something that is important to them, and the rest can go to hell. Or they are off thinking about things like gifts, or paying bills, or prepping dinner. Idk, I have just seen more and more shitty driving lately and its frightening. Maybe once they do the autopilot in cars people can go to the DMV and take a test. It will be very strict, and if you can display you are a capable driver then you can pilot your own vehicle, if you cannot you will be required to buy an automated vehicle.

The holidays always bring out the worst in bad drivers. As per your autonomous vehicle idea, see: iRobot (Movie)

It's hard for people to drive with their head in this position.

:| I see your point. lets assume that wont happen, then imagine the utopia we would live in..... No cars going slow in the left lane EVER.

I also blame Parkas . I own the one in the photo below and that fur/large hood blocks any side views etc. I drove with it on for the first time last month and you loose SO MUCH visibility it makes you a horrible driver. I ended up pulling over on the highway to remove it I found it too much of a hazard. Out here everyone seems to drive with one, now I just preheat the car.

Here's my own rant. I live in a city where it snows, and when it does snow it can snow a lot (up to 6 inches is generally expected) and most people have snow tires on their cars. But for some reason, every time it snows, the whole damn city acts like they've never seen this slippery white stuff before and they all drive 20 under the limit! IT'S SNOW. YOU LIVE IN CANADA. LEARN TO DRIVE.

I think my kids might have learned a few new words this morning while mommy drove them to school. The roads were plowed. The roads were salted. So exactly why were people driving 20 under the limit?!?!? It's Wisconsin. It snows here too!
